Welcome to VISIBLEHOLISM.COM. This website was founded in February of 2009 by Dr. Bai Xinghua, the author of Acupuncture: Visible Holism (Oxford: Butterworth-Heineman, 2001). Its main categories are as follows:
Acupuncture and Chinese Culture: This section will include introductions to the history of acupuncture and related aspects of traditional Chinese culture. Original articles based upon the author’s research will be posted in this column, discussing the uniquely Chinese origins of acupuncture, as well as when, why, and by whom it was invented. Additional articles will address the principal philosophies of ancient China, including the teachings of Laozi, Kongzi (Confucius), Zhuangzi, and Mengzi. Current Chinese approaches to both prevention and medical treatment will also be introduced.
Acupuncture Reports from China: This section will include summaries of articles on acupuncture and related therapies published in major Chinese academic journals, including Chinese Acupuncture (Zhongguo zhenjiu 中国针灸), Acupuncture Research (Zhenci yanjiu针刺研究), the Journal of Chinese Integrative Medicine (Zhongguo zhongxiyi jiehe zazhi国中西医结合杂志), and the Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Zhongyi zazhi中医杂志). Material from 2000 to 2008 will be posted within a few months, and the database will continue to be updated with new material. Readers may search the database using various keywords, including the various meridians and acupoints, needling techniques, diseases and disorders, etc. Translations of full articles will be available upon request. The translating fee will be based on the number of Chinese characters and prevailing market rates.
Acupuncture Training Center: This section will provide information about acupuncture training available for foreign students and professionals. Short-term courses in Beijing include a three-month basic course, as well as one week to two month advanced courses. Lectures are presented in English by experienced professors and practitioners of the School of Acupuncture & Moxibustion of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, as well as researchers and practitioners from other hospitals and institutes at Beijing. Students will practise at the affiliated clinics of the school, as well as acupuncture clinics of other hospitals in Beijing. Online training courses are also available.
Acupuncture Books & Instruments Shop: Books in English about acupuncture and related therapies published in China and abroad, as well as a wide range of acupuncture needles and instruments made in China will be available through the site.
